About Us

Bees pollinate a significant majority of the world’s food. In North America alone, honey bees pollinate nearly 95 kinds of fruits, including almonds, avocados, cranberries and apples. In fact, we can thank honey bees for one in three bites of food we eat.

We all rely on bees – and the pollination services they provide – every day.

Healthybees=Healthygardens is a neighborhood organization dedicated to the preservation of the honeybees. The goal of Healthybees-healthygardens is to educate the community about how we can live together in a healthy and safe environment free of harmful chemicals. We are hosting beehives in the Eugene area to create spray free zones.

The first “Save the Bees” event will be on March 24th at Washington Park (2025 Washington in Eugene) from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. This event will have educational bee information, our top 25 pollinators, native plant walk, potluck picnic, music, and more!

Please come join us, and commit to our “Honey Bee Friend pledge” to make Eugene more sustainable.

No-Spray Neighbourhood Campaign
Did you know that the wax in a beehive starts to poison the bees in less than five years due to the harmful chemicals we use in our environment? This is called honey bee colony collapse.

With this fact and a commitment to protect our local honeybees,

HealthyBees=HealthyGardens was launched.

The HealthyBees=HealthyGardens no-spray neighbourhood campaign seeks to educate the community about the healthy and chemical-free ways we can live with the honeybees in our environment.

Our strategic plan is to install honeybee hives in healthy neighbourhoods who want to host a hive. Each event will be coordinated with a door to door canvassing effort engaging the surrounding neighbours to commit to the following Honey Bee Friend pledge. Everyone is welcome to sign the pledge.

In the interest of protecting our neighbouring families, pets, honeybees and our gardens, we the undersigned residents at ________________________(name, address and email) pledge to refrain from using herbicides, insecticides, pesticides and any other harmful chemicals (Weed and Feed, Round-Up, etc.) on our property.
As more and more people participate, our hope is to gradually develop large areas of Eugene that are chemical-free. We want to have City policy established to make our homes and parks safe for all living things.

The Honey Bee Friend pledge is co-sponsored with our partner, Beyond Toxics, a local environmental health non-profit organization. You can also sign the pledge on their website. to get information on the Safe Public Places project, link to honey bee projects across the nation, and find information about purchasing your own HealthyBees=HealthyGardens “No Spraying Please” yard signs.
